fujcube
Hi all, Our white Call Duck has been busy laying and started sitting on a clutch of 12 eggs, from yesterday (Sunday 1st May). Needless to say, I will be requesting a week off from work at the end of the month!! Once she has finished sitting on this clutch, will she go back to laying at some point or is that it for the season? If she does go back to laying, would it be possible for her to hatch out another brood of ducklings or do they only breed once per season? If you would like to keep uo to date with their progress and view our many photos, please look up Riverside Poultry on Facebook and add us as a friend. fujcube
OMG! Went to check on Layla and her eggs and noticed that one of the eggs was pipping. By my calculations, this wasn't meant to happen until the weekend! However, I left her to it and have just been out for 'another check'. Out of the 12 eggs, we now have 3 that are pipping and two that are obviously bad. Fingers crossed for the remaining 7. I couldn't resist feeling the eggs that are pipping, how excited did I become when I felt the little ducklings tapping against the inside of the shell. She is now securely locked in her hut and won't be getting out until the hatching is over, unless under my supervision!!! We have also put another 6 White Call eggs in the incubator! Here's the proud 'mum to be'. fujcube
Hi all, At last, they have hatched! Went to work this morning with 3 eggs pipping and one almost fully hatched. returned from work this afternoon to find 7 little fluffy bundles hiding under their mum! There is another, well on the way to hatching so that will give us 8 ducklings, so far, from the 12 eggs with 2 of them definitely bad. Hopefully the remaining 2 will hatch sometime soon.
