HENthusiastic
Hi. I have been feeding my quail with chick crumb, but when I saw some omlet quail food for sale on flyte-so-fancy I got some. They seem to be eating vast amounts of the stuff. I'm not sure whether they have just started eating more becuase they have just started laying again this year, or whether for some reason they just eat more of this stuff. Any ideas anybody? Has anybody else changed from chick crumb to quail food or visa versa?
Guest
we got some quail chicks that were just off heat and we fed them on chick crumb, they ate like horses! When they started laying we moved them onto layers mash, they still eat like horses!

dan30088
Hey, I had my quail chicks on normal chick crumb from hatch till about 5 weeks old, then I changed them onto the Flytes so Fancy quail mix aswell. And I like you found that they ate loads of the stuff, The tub it comes in only lasted me about 3 weeks, and I only have 4 quail. I also didnt like the food coz it was very powder like. There seemed to be alot of fine dust left in bottom of the feeders all of the time. Also with it being so light they just kicked it everywhere! So after looking into it abit more, and considering my options, I changed them onto normal chicken layers pellets. And they are great, I get an egg every day without fail off each of the girls. and they are all happy and healthy. Much less mess and they dont seem to eat quite as much of it. HENthusiastic
Gosh, thats interesting. Can they manage the pellets okay? They look quite big for those little beaks. Thats why I was recommended to use chick crumb instead.

Guest
ours are doing really well on layers mash, 8 eggs from 7 quail the other day!
Janty
My quail eat Garvo quailmixture. It has tiny pellets in as well as lots of different grains. They really love it. However, my supplier isn't putting in another order yet so they are on layers pellets and they are still scoffing them down at a hefty rate.
