Egluntyne
Do we need to worry about the latest outbreak of Bird Flu (milder form) in the Llyn Peninsula? The source has been traced back to a supplier in Macclesfield which is a bit too close for comfort for me. (about 30 miles!)

Laura007
its not the really bad one that been in the news over the past year, its a different strain and it only seems to be a very small story in todays paper, so hopefully there will be no scaremongering. Sheilaz
Do we need to worry ....?quote] No, you do not need to worry! Unless you bought some RIRs from Chelford market on 7/5 or have been in contact with the farm in Wales which had the cases. There is no more reason to worry now than before this story. I'm just amazed it wasn't the BBC headline news The cases were a milder strain of Bird Flu & not related to the H5N1. These milder flus have been around for ages and always will be. The fact that it is being dealt with efficiently is reassuring. Any sudden deaths of more than 2 birds are to be checked, but no need to worry any more or less than usual, as far as I can see. Egluntyne
Good Oh! As a bit of an aside I was browsing in Waterstones the other day and I was gobsmacked at the number of books on "self help in the event of Bird Flu" and "Bird Flu for Dummies"etc.......... Gallina
The University of Oxford (where I work) even has a Flu webmaster. See for example this page. You will note that there is a Crisis Management Team and a Pandemic Planning Team. Over the top if we don't get a pandemic; very sensible if we do.
