johnandkymberley
Hi all, the question is simple really! whats better black rocks or daisybelles? Thanks
daxigirl
What's a Daisybelle? (Sorry about my ignorance). Sounds nice though.
Olly
A Daisybelle is also known as a 'reverse Sussex' I believe - a black/dark grey chicken with a pale ruff round her neck. I have one, she's been a reliable layer but she's a terribly noisy girl, squawks very loudly in the mornings.

migsy
I have never had a Daisybelle but my Black Rock rocks!
sparkysmum
I don't have either but I understand that true black rocks can be pecky and need a sizeable range.
migsy
My Black Rock is not pecky - she is very inquisitive, bold, and very much the leader, but yes, she likes space. She is a lot stronger than the others and so a little difficult to hold but I have no problems catching her.
johnandkymberley
We do have lots of space, have found a breeder in nottingham who has both but they are going to be a suprise for OH birthday, but he really wants black rocks, we have lots of space (3 lawns) and our hens pretty much free range all day and then pop themselves to bed, we dont restrict free ranging unless they are not laying etc, we then go back to square one with them, but for months they have been fine so hoping after a few days to a week black rocks can free range with them (but will be sleeping in the eglu) When we got the white stars, my friend sprayed them about 4 times a day with a hosepipe, Willow ans Lily were in a terrible state and i could not believe she had done that (now an ex friend!!!!!) they were quaking, no word of a lie they just shook with fear, anyway we got them, dried them etc and now they are so tame, actually lily crouches when i just speak to her!!! Willow is very tame and my baby and just lets me carry her all day, she just falls asleep! bless her, but i read that white stars are so hard to tame etc but we have had no probs so do you think i could handle a black rock!!!?!?!
