snowberry
On the back of my house is a very old lean to glass house/conservatory about 15 x 10ft that was put in by the previous people. It's been buckling and getting weaker for years now but I've never had the funds to pull it down & put up something in it's place. It's not something you can 'patch' either, it's just horrible! This morning one of the doors has fallen right off and I'm afraid the rest will go very very soon I have insurance, but does anyone know where I stand on it? It clearly hasn't been maintained, because it was a lost cause anyway. Will I be able to claim? Thanks for any suggestions, Sb Edited May 14, 2011 by Guest
Cinnamon
it depends on whether your insurance covers it or not - it may be classed as an outbuilding. Did you specify that you had it when you took the insurance out? I am suspect that if it has not been maintained it may not be covered anyhow
Snowy
At the least, ring your insurers and tell them your conservatory is collapsing. Our porch started to crack and come away from the front of the house a few years ago. The insurers came out and assessed it, told us what remedial work needed doing to prevent a recurrence (we had to pay to do that, improve the drainage for the rainwater run off), then once that was done they sent someone to completely rebuild it and that was all covered by the insurers. I didn't know if we would be covered, but it pays to ask!
Chicken shack
We had a very rickety garage and when we had those gales all those years ago it blew down. The insurance company were very good and paid for a new one. Had it fallen down on its own they wouldn't have done. Let's hope there is a very isolated gale at the back of your house. Good luck
