vickichicky
Hi, does anyone else have a chook that growls when she's laying? One of my Bovans Goldline hybrids makes a lot of noise when laying that maks me think it must be hurting, literally like "owwwww" and angry noises. She does lay reasonably large eggs but not huge. I am concerned she'll end up with Peritonitus having lost 2 other girls to that over the last couple of years I give them good quality food with cod liver oil mixed in and other supplements from time to time. I know it sounds daft but is there anything I can do to help her? She's such a cutie I don't like to think of her in pain every day (she's fine at every other time) Thanks, Vicki
esta
When she lays, if you go near her, does she puff up her feathers and make a squealing sqwarking noise? If so she is possibly broody That's what Edna has been doing recently, it doesn't last too long hope she is alrighty
Sam
Does it sound like *this?* (press the little play button and it should work.. ) Thats the noise my black chicken made, I was really worried (hence the recording) but the forum said it was the noise of a broody
esta
yes she is most likely broody by the sound of that thats the sound edna usually makes!
vickichicky
lol what a cute noise you recorded! No that sounds kinda happy to me. Betty doesn't know I'm there when she does it - She's in the cube and it really does sound angry. I will have to record it next time I'm there when she's laying. She's fine when I open the nest box door and talk to her not angry with me or anything - she's a really friendly girl that loves a stroke and a cuddle. I really do think she must be in some sort of pain I'll see if I can capture the sounds and get back to you all. Thanks for posting replies Vicki x
gongladosh
When she lays, if you go near her, does she puff up her feathers and make a squealing sqwarking noise? If so she is possibly broody That's what Edna has been doing recently, it doesn't last too long When my little light sussex, Houdini turns periodically into Broodini, when we remove her from the nest so she gets some food, I'm sure the noise she makes sounds exactly like 'NOOOOOOOOO'!
