I would be grateful for some advice - one of our sussex ponte hens has died -symptoms were- messy bottom, loss of appetite, progressively becoming weak and wasting away. Now the other hen from the same supplier is exhibiting symptoms of a messy bottom tho is still quite bright and alert. we have isolated her from the other hens (older and stronger) but am worried she is heading the same way.

I'm new to chicken keeping, but the advice for messy bottoms seems to be worming with flubenvet.

hope someone experienced comes along with more advice soon.

I would contact your supplier to find out if they have a problem with the flock and can guide you to problem.

I'd get on to the supplier and see what they say.

Isolation sounds like a good idea to keep it away from the others.

 

It does sound like Cocci so maybe try and get some Coxoid. Make sure she is eating and especially drinking plenty, maybe also try a tonic like LifeGuard in their water

How long was she ill for before she died? 'Wasting away' makes it sound like she was ill for a while

thanks for the responses - she was only ill for about 3 days - just got very weak - quite sudden really. Still have the other sussex isolated from the others she is very timid anyway, and though she is still green pooey she seems a bit better, not eating very much though.
