ElvisFan
Hi everyone - advice needed please, my girlie Mayday went broody yesterday and was sitting on 2 eggs on the roosting bars in the eglu when I got home last night (not sure why but neither of them like the nest box) any how, I have read the advice about broodies on here and I don't think I can bring myself to dunk the poor girl is a bucket of water, its quite cold by us at the mo and has been blowing a gale last few days. I haven't got a seperate broody cage I could put her in and I don't want to split them up really as there is only the 2 of them and they are really close. I took her out of the eglu last night, took the eggs and then shut the door, she and Nikki were running about quite happily, this morning same routine, she was only sitting on one egg though so I think she has stopped laying. I took the egg, and put her in the run with Nikki, she could get back into the eglu if she wanted to. Am I doing the right thing by taking the eggs and moving her outside ? I don't expect this will make her suddenly not broody but I'm not going to do any harm by moving her and making her go outside ??? Cheers guys
peckingham palace
Hi, I had the same problem with one of my gingernuts last week, after some good advice from the forum, I sat some bags of ice in the nest box which cooled her down and the next day she was fine. I did feel sorry for her doing it and like you just couldn't face dunking her in cold water, at least with the bags of ice trick she had a choice to sit on them or not. Anyway its worth a try. Good luck. x
LunaKiw1
I took the ice advice this week too and placed a frozen cooler pack in a plastic bag in the nest box. My Pepperpot, who has lost all her tummy feathers which also seemed to be a broody sign, has perked up a bit and stayed out of the Eglu in the day so i am hoping she's snapping out of going broody. It's so reassuring to be able to scan through the forum posts and find people either with same problem or even better an effective solution.
