Well i have a small chick water bowl it is one you fill and turn upside down .

2 of the chicks scratch all day long in the saw dust and fill the water bowl up , i so far tryed to keep the shavings at one end and not put as many in and they still scatch them into the water bowl :( its very cute watching them do it but im woried that when im out at work one day they will fillit and be without water for a few houres which i dont want ,

Any sugestions on how i get round this ?

I am using the same thing for my chicks and was having a similar problem.

I had a broken drinker, which I have used the bottom (red) bit from.

That is sat on the floor upside down, with the drinker on top, it has just raised it up a bit higher off the ground and really helps.

If they are small then a platform is good - an inch or so raised and with room for them to stand by the drinker

When they are bigger then just raise the drinker

I personally use a j cloth in half of the brooder with the food and drinker on and only put bedding in the other half

Wood pellet cat litter makes good bedding as it's less easily thrown about

I had exactly the same problem until today! I bought a bigger cage for them till they go outside, and it came with a hamster/rabbit/guinea pig bottle. My SIL said no way, they won't figure it out. Guess what?! They did, within minutes! Now I have two of them each side of the cage, and the chicks are happily drinking from it. I just thought, if the big girls can drink from my super glugs with the nipples, then they can drink from a hamster bottle. They are so clever :D:D
