Mr Rhode Island Red
I have a problem with slugs in my veggie patch. I also have an occasional problem of hens escaping from the run. I am going to lay out slug pellets, but I was wondering if so called "wild bird safe" slug pellets are safe for chickens as well Anybody with advice would be greatly appreciated. Plum
No idea but I wouldn't. Won't the girls eat the slugs for you especially if you let them turn the ground over before planting your veg.
Henergy
I use broken egg shells (baked, crushed) scattered over my veg plot - seems to have worked well so far. I have never used slug pellets as always worried about them & the kids, plus the 'poison' washing into the veg.
Olly
I just wouldn't risk it. I use eggshells, but - even though the chooks are banned from the veg patch for obvious reasons - I don't have many slugs or snails these days! I think the risk of a hen eating slug pellets, even 'bird friendly' ones, is just one that I wouldn't want to take.
