TutuTallulah
Hi all you elderflower champagneers! I made my first batch of eldeflower champagne last Friday - HFW recipe I made it in a spotlessly clean fermentation bin and followed the recipe. By Monday there was horrible (blue) mould covering the top rather than any signs of fermentation, so the whole lot had to go in the bin. Can anyone advise where I went wrong? Is it worth me trying again? I hate throwing anything away! Any advice greatly appreciated - I would love to be on the elderflower champagne wagon!! Thanks in advance x
Chucky Mama
I had some last year that looked quite iffy on the top but it then settled and there is now just fairly looking sediment on the bottom. Was it real honest to goodness mould?
TutuTallulah
It was definitely mould - the lovely elderflower smell was over taken with 'mouldy bread' type smell and it was blue and furry... I was so disappointed Everyone seems to do well with Kate's recipe so may try again...

Alis girls
I am bottling mine tonight flies and all hope I dont get mould on it.
Charlottechicken
Never had mould on elderflower fizz or cordial Do you store it in a dark, cool place? I do get mould on the elderberry cordial sometimes, but I just scoop it out and use the cordial, as it doesn't smell. How odd!
Alis girls
I've put mine in my spare fridge - is that ok? Sieved flies out (i hope)
Cinnamon
It has happened to me the last 3 years - have given up now
Charlottechicken
I made it in a spotlessly clean fermentation bin and followed the recipe. Just spotted this bit. Once mine has stood for two days in a bucket, I bottle it up to ferment in the bottles, wonder if that is making the difference. My house is certainly not spotlessly clean
