witzend
this is interesting - I was kind of hoping that chicks brought up together would be harmonious!
Redwing
Chicks do play fight, its quite common so I wouldnt worry Blood at the top of the beak normally means that they have been pushing up against the run wire

pips_pekins
I have 2 young girls who do this although no blood thank goodness. You need to hide the red of the blood. Most people use purple spray but I am sure I have read somewhere that blue food colour will do in an emergency. Also, it may be that you need to treat any wound with vet powder. In terms of them continuing. I am quite inexperienced and would think someone else will be able to provide you with more advice. However, they are probably establishing their pecking order. Make sure they have enough space and things to keep them busy. I have hung cds up and put up some trellis to make a little platform for them to jump on. Also things like scattering corn might keep them too busy to fight. Good luck. It is not nice to see but hopefully peace will be restored. lougarbard
My pekin boys have been play fighting until today, but today they drew blood, and I kept splitting them up and off they go again! I have moved one now. They are 7 weeks old this coming weekend, so quite young I think to be 'proper' fighting!
witzend
BLIMEY - as I'm STILL waiting for mine is there ANYTHING that can be done to prevent fighting/plucking even breaking out?? Off to zzzzz now.............just been discussing WIR............. it's now been fully costed and should be up by the 24th
WitchHazel
Chicks will still "fight" to establish pecking orders, but it usually doesn't cause a problem (unless one of them accidentally gets wounded, in which case they will all peck the injured chick). If they are bored or overcrowded then it can be a bit more serious.
Egluntyne
It might also indicate that they are cockerels. The only chicks that I have ever raised that have been fighters have all turned out to be of the male persuasion in the end.
