Warm boot recommendations please

I need advice on how to "store my eggs" (the search phrase I entered which brought up 40 helpful pages)!

i know they are good for 28 days more or less, & that they must not be stored in the fridge, but a couple of questions.

Can I write the laying date on the egg in pencil?

Is it ok to use one of those wire basket things (usually in the shape of a chicken) to store the eggs in , or do they have to stay point down? I quite fancy a wire egg storer on my kitchen windowledge, because I don't have much room anywhere else.

 

I am aware that I probably will NOT have many eggs to store, with them having been eaten, given away etc

Yes you can write on them in pencil and they should be fine in a wire basket too

 

You will have eggs to store in the basket when you get more chickens

Not necessary to keep them in the fridge, in fact it can lead to bacteria penetrating the shell. Just keep cool (so no window ledges), stored pointy end down, on the side in your kitchen.

Because the air sac is in the roundy end and it goes off less quickly that way up. There was some scientific reason quoted (perhaps it was from Louise), but I can't remember - sorry.
