Shell-less egg, now poorly-UPDATE

Recommended Posts

Saffron, my bantam brahma lays very few eggs, On Sunday, all I found in the nest box was broken egg yolk. I hoped that she would pass the rest naturally yesterday or today. I gave her some Zolcal, but she is very quiet and withdrawn today. Is this likely to right itself, and how long should I wait before the vet?

Vet didn't know what the problem was, couldn't find any shell etc. gave her a dufamox injection plus two follow ups for us to give on alternate days.

We couldn't get her to eat other than a few chopped grapes and a bit of ready-brek. She seemed to be going down hill and today we took it in turns to sit her on our laps and give her drops of water with Avipro in it which she seemed happy to take. It was a matter of time and she passed away quietly and peacefully in my husbands arms, in the sunshine with the sounds of her friends around her.:cry::cry:

Thanks, sandy.

I try not to get attached to the girls too much in the knowledge that I might be the dispatcher if the need arises.

Saffron (I call her Scamp because she is so small but hard) always made me chuckle at the way she ran like a dwarf with wellies on.

I don't cry at funerals.

Today I'm blubbing like a girl.

RIP baby...
