a magpie has got in my WIR and is flying around like a mad thing trying to get out again. I've shut the girls out inside the leccy fence and opened the door wide, but the stupid bird is flapping from one side to the other, bouncing off the wire, and getting quite distressed . I was going to try and catch it in the pool net, but I'm scared to go in to be honest, they are VERY big close up, huge claws and beak . think I might go round the back of the run and try and scare it towards the door.

any other ideas???

Could you tempt it out with some bread just outside the WIR? It may focus it on going in the right direction. Good luck.

We had a baby sparrow in ours recently - luckily it found its way out quickly.

 

I'd probably leave it to find its own way out, it might be getting more distressed if you're there (even if you're trying to help it!)

crisis over - it finally found the door and shot out like a bullet - lucky I wasnt that close as I think it would have hit me!! they are well scary, innit?!

meanwhile I have another trip to the chicken vet booked - Muffin is hopping and one leg is sticking out a funny angle. ho hum.

That's a relief . Sorry about poor Muffin though, hope she's OK .
