Bex01
Hello all, I'm sooo excited Hubby is on the final construction stage of our WIR and the order is in for 3 ex-batt ladies, due for release on 30th July from Fresh start for hens. Are there any words of wisdom for a newbie like myself. I'm going chook provision shopping at the weekend, so I have a shopping list that so far has Diatom powder, Stalosan F (for the run)& verm x, unsure whether I need Ex-batt crumb or pellets Am I missing any obvious immediate essentials? I have been checking "Aint "Ooops, word censored!"ody's here's" FAQ on the needs and have already got my ecover washing up liquid for washing my eglu. Very excited and a little nervous Also I've noticed some very nice clear pvc blinds, are these cut to size from Clear PVC tarps? Thanks
pips_pekins
Welcome to the forum. How exciting and not many sleeps to go until you collect your girls. Don't forget grit, a camera to take lots of pictures to share with us and a comfy chair for chicken watching
Sam
Welcome to the forum Sorry don't have any advice, but verm-x is not as good as flubenvet because it doesn't actually get rid of the worms. I got mine from BestPet. Good luck and I'm sure you'll love them
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome and congratulations on the WIR and the soon-to-arrive girlies . First bit of advice, don't panic . You really don't need everything on the list for the day they arrive - as long as they have shelter, food and water they'll be fine . I've never had ex-batts so not sure which food to advise but I think I read that they have crumb as batts so that's what they're used to. It is messier though so you can always change to pellets with time if you want. Most people seem to prefer Flubenvet over Vermex but it's up to you. My blinds were cut to size from glassclear tarps - sadly, they are mostly ripped now as we have really vicious winds here. They would work well in a sheltered garden though. We'll be expecting photos of this WIR and your lucky girls .
