Hi there,

I know this sounds like a funny question My hubby has built me a WIR and our Eglu classic sits on a shelf, about 2 ft off the ground, so the girls will need to walk up and down the plank! I seem to remember reading somewhere that their legs can be a bit wobbly to start with. I can obviously put them in at night and get them out in the morning, but should I be thinking of a ground based nesting box for the early days. Will this be making a rod for my own back, when I want to take it away later???

I would give them a good week or so without having to climb if you can.

when mine came out they could barely flap their wings without falling over

however, within a week of being able to strech their legs and build up some strength mine were able to flap out over an 18" fence, at which point I gave up trying to keep them separate from the others, and they soon learnt to climb the ladder into the WIR and the ladder into the cube.

All the ones I have had have been very unsteady on their legs until they have had a chance to build up a bit of muscle
