Frontline spray - Egg withdrawal time?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Found some Lice on 2 of my girls recently so took one off to the vets this morning to see if they would prescribe me something 'not licensed for chickens' as the Johnsons isn't doing the trick (plus I have had a bad reaction to it in the past).

They prescribed me frontline spray (which I have seen recommended on here) at 6 skirts per kg of bird ( so around 12 each for my girlies). She recommended a weeks egg withdrawal to be on the safe side as it's not tested etc...

I am happy with that advice though I absolutely HATE throwing my girls eggs away - it's such a shame, an egg takes on a new light when you have chickens doesn't it! They are a precious thing made lovingly by your cherished girls :(

Just wondered if anyone else has been advised differently or have any comments on me using it in general.

Again it was stressed it 'wasn't licensed for chickens' but that it has worked well for some other customers.

Maybe instead of throwing them away you could boil them and mush them up, or scramble them and feed them back to the chickens? They're really good for them, full of protein, and when they're cooked they aren't recognisable as eggs so won't encourage egg eating :D

It's a good thought - much better than wasting them. But I have to say that Egluntyne is right :( Oh well.

On that thought I guess it's better not to dispose of them anywhere another animal will get them?

I'm starting treatment on saturday as Lottie my cream !eggblue! Legbar is a nightmare to catch....(an in the house before being let out jobbie)
