I would like to make a rug for our living room this winter.

 

Any advice? Anyone made a rug?

 

I have had a go with a kit some years ago, this one I would like to design and make, in shades of purple and lilac

 

Not quite sure where to start

 

This is our seventh winter here and each year I aim to make it but this year I will get it made

I'm sure there was some discussion on here about the hooks and things last year. It may have been for rag rugs

Not sure it will help much but someone may have got on with it

You used to be able to buy them in kit form (everything required was in one package) and on the canvas was the pattern painted on you just matched paint colour to wool colour and often the shop would have lots of samples so you could choose the one you wanted - am not sure if its the same now or you just buy a plain canvas and make your own pattern - they are very easy to do and when done are very hard wearing (or at least used to be !!)

I really want to design it myself, as I know what colours I want to use

 

Just worried I will get half way through and then realise I have missed some vital stage out in the preparation. OH will then be cross, waste of money and I will have wasted loads of time .
