keyhole kate
I have just noticed Merryweather one of my original gingers who I have had since April 2008 has a very very swollen eye to the point of it being closed it is not yucky or weeping it dosen' t seem to be bothering her she has no other symptoms and she dosen't seem to be in any pain I have booked a five o'clock vet appointment for her I fear it is not going to be good news will update you all after appointment

keyhole kate
Thanks Plum Okay on first inspection the vet thought her eye had ruptured and was gone however after some serious chicken wrangling poking and prodding her eye is still intact and looks clean and clear there is so much swelling all around her eye as the vet pointed out it had changed the shape of her head if you looked at her face on he cannot tell me how it's happened he suspects another chicken could be the culprit I do have a girl who thinks she is a cockerel and treads the others or as he said it could even be the mother of bruises. She has had an antibiotic jab and we will go back to see the vet Tuesday fingers crossed, I have seperated her from the others in a dog crate for her safety . The vet charged £39.40 in total so fairly reasonable I think
Chickvic
What a relief - let's hope her eye makes a full recovery
