Pooey bum

Recommended Posts

Not me - one of my girls who is in every other way well - eating drinking but not laying, wormed recently and very active. I noticed over weekend her bum was pooey - so after a performance to catch her as she doesnt like being handled we washed her and dried her - nil to be seen - poo is brown and squirty (sorry) and she doesnt smell. I gave her some Yalkult and oats as my friend found this to be useful for her hen when under the weather. She hasnt laid for a while and I got her at POL last April 2010 so shes not that old. Moulted most of the summer. I read the poo section of chicken clinic and not sure where to go next. I have Baytril left over from when my last hen died. Any advice very welcome.

Thanks everyone - i havent used the Baytril and wont unless absolutely necc. i havent heard of Herban. The other thing OH pointed out was the windfall apples - wondered if she;d been at them :shameonu: her sister is fine so dont think its a bug as such. I will remove the apples - I didnt think they went near them but these are chcikens and they do seem to be er dustbin like.

Spoke to vet - ie the one whose wife has hens- told him what I ahd done, worming, probiotics etc - he didnt seem to concerned - shes eating drinking and quaffing back Yakult like a good un. He said to hit with the Yakult hard. Booked for next week but advised to bring in before if seems ill. Shes strutting about with a dirty bum - will give a wash tommorrow as its dry. he seemed impressed with what I had done - didnt tell him it was down to Omlet but did mention Eglu so he might know.

Thanks for your advice everyone - oh BTW 0 Maggie my new hen will get her beak clipped too as bottom bit overlaps. Thanks Guys :D
