5week old chick with watery poops

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if it is something or nothing but yesterday morning and this morning one of my chicks

has started doing watery poops.

It seems to be worse in the morning and got better as the day went on yesterday, This morning there are

poops that are a little watery but not as bad (No blood in them)but Charlie is sneezing now and again.

There are in the brooder at night with the elec hen on but i did notice they slept at the side of it last night

(they are in the conservatory during the day). I'm not sure if it's getting to warm and drinking lots first thing or something more sinister.

They seem a little docile this morning.

Does it look watery because its on a different surface? Like absorbant wood shavings when they were in the brooder and now on the patio/decking outside?

If there is no blood and they get better during the day I wouldn't panic just yet :)

They sit around hunched and not looking v good at all, and as you say, there would be blood in their poos.

If they've been on medicated crumb they should be ok.

Don't think they can have Coxoid and medicated crumb at the same time but you might want to check - mine's not in the original Coxoid bottle to check the label!

It could be the heat as you say, I'd try to move it if you can, a cool-ish garage with artificial light would be ok or shade the cage if you leave it in situ

Check the date on the medicated crumb, if its in date then it should be doing its job and I wouldnt use the Coxoid too as the two things could counteract each other. if it the crumb is out of date then break out the Coxoid or better still replace the crumb

That is good news, and I hope all continues well :D

If they give you any further cause for concern, I would still advise you to have a poo sample tested - one of my Pekins was ill recently, and the vet tested a sample of her poo; there was no sign of blood in it to the naked eye, but it tested positive for cocci.

The fact that you are giving them medicated crumb must provide them with some protection, and you can do no more than give them that and keep everything very clean.

My vet advised me to get some Bi OO Cyst for cleaning the floor of the run, which I have done, and apparently Stalosan F is also effective.

We he seems to be doing just formed slightly 'to many treats' poops today so fingers crossed he's ok.

Well i say he, I have been googling ways to sex Lav Araucanas and one method i have all girls, another all boys,

a different one says Charlie is a girl the other two boys but another says vice versa.:lol::lol:

Anyway i am looking for unisex names for the two Lavender ones.
