Unsecure chicken perches

After watching my 2 teenagers scrabbling about yesterday evening catching our 3 new hens in order to put them in the cube for the night, I am wondering how long it will take before the chooks know that this is going to happen, and co-operate.

Welcome to the forum . It shouldn't take more than a couple of days so you'll get your teenagers back soon . Sometimes bribery works better than chasing. A little cup of mixed corn/mealworms sprinkled where you want them to go and they'll be putty in your hands!

I've just moved my hens into a Cube (they were previously in a Classic). Have to say they did struggle with the ladder, but I put some "log on a roll" on it so it is now more of a ramp than a ladder and with that they sussed in no time at all that they could go up and down it to their hearts' contents!!! I've just moved my latest crop of ex-batts in with them, they seem to be finding the adjustment harder, but fingers crossed, they'll pick it up (I'm sure my neighbours think I'm made, out in the Cube run, on my hands and knees trying to teach chucks to use a ladder .... )

Happy to say that the chooks learnt very quickly indeed and after about 4 nights, started to put themselves to bed very happily. Good girls!

ive been very lucky.. all eight of my hens sussed it out within 2 nights at the most. got them in stages of two hens
