hi guys... can anyone pls tell me how old cockerels are before they start to mate ??? its a pekin bantam, are there any signs to look for to tell that it is starting to become sexually active ??

Just the most obvious sign - it will start to mount the hens

 

 

I daresay that a mod will be along in a moment to move this to the correct section.

I've got a cream legbar cross that started at about 12 - 14 weeks old. he had the urge but neither the manners nor the technique to please the girls he was intrested in

It will probably start seriously trying things with the hens at about 16 weeks plus

 

The cockerel will drop a wing and start dancing at the females shuffling up beside them then he will make a grab at them, after a week or so of being told off and chased away by the females he will manage to tread them
