Alis girls
Love or loathe them they have their place. Personally I get flustered on them and forget who I am, why i've called and who I'm calling - thus sounding dippy. Had to laugh this morning - OH and I were at my friends and the phone rang - went to answering machine before she could get to it - it was her elderly aunt " Hello A - its aunty here blah blah - I'll drop your meatballs round later" We looked at each other and were hysterical with laughter. Bless she couldnt have known we would all be privy to this little gem.
soapdragon
''Hello, this is the cooker speaking, the answerphone is in the bathroom. The washing machine, kettle and I battled it out and I won! You can leave a message but, knowing her, she wont bother replying - you should see the state of my oven...don't know what she does all day.Anyway, must off as its the 'fridges turn next.'' I HATE answerphones and have wanted to record a message like this for ages but hubs wont let me...wonder why!? The messages are usually SOOOOOOOO boring and generally catch me on the hop so I get flustered and leave a cringe-worthy little speech probably forgetting my number and then have to ring back AGAIN so that the recipient thinks what a total lemon I am. Either that or I rattle on and hear the dreaded 'beeeeep' and know I have been cut of and then have to ring back AGAIN to finish the message. I am feeling like a very old Luddite but yearn for the days when, if you were in you answerd the 'phone and, if you wern't you didn't and we all knew where we were (usually OUT!!!!) Actually, I'd just love to buy a croft on the Outer Hebrides with chickens and Soays (and hubs and boys, of course!) Bah, humbug!!! Or maybe I'm just having a tough day!!!!!! Rant over; thanks for listeneing!
Olly
Oh, I love that message - I might have to record that! I wouldn't cope without my answering machine, I am out such a lot; I always try and answer it if I am in, though, I wouldn't just leave it to ring. Oh - unless it's someone I don't want to speak to - caller ID is my other lifesaver!
