pips_pekins
Hello. So today I have gone to get food for the girls and I have bought Garvo growers to replace the usual brand. All excited, I have tipped out the last bit of the old stuff and opened the bag of Garvo only to find that the top has clumped into several smallish blocks and one or two of those clumps have gone fluffy On closer inspection, the corner of the bag seems to have got damp and has black mould dots over it. I have no other food as they were down to the last bit and I have now emptied the Grub into the rubbish bin. The only other food I have is a small sample of Fancy Feed layers pellets which I have had for several months! Apart from the bits stuck together, the rest seems fine but I am reluctant to give it them. I can't get back to the suppliers until after work tomorrow which means leaving them all day without pellets. What would others do? What can I give them to eat until I am able to get back with the pellets? I have bokashi bran so can make some porridge up for them with mealworms. Plum
They can have weetabix or similar as a one off and if you have corn give them some of that but I wouldn't give them mouldy feed. If the fancy feed smells ok and been in the dry that would be ok.
pips_pekins
Thanks Plum. Poor things. I hope they like weetabix! Would you suggest mixing these up with water or just crumbling them up? I can't believe that I have driven miles and paid so much extra to get Garvo and got a mouldy batch Think next time I will stick to Fancy Feed (their usual pellets); the stockists are much nearer if anything is wrong! The Dogmother
I wouldn't feed mouldy feed either; it can be toxic to them.
pips_pekins
Thanks Dogmother. That was what I was worried about. I wondered if others might think it would be ok to scoop out the stuff from the bottom that was not affected as it was an emergency! Anyway, managed to get back to the suppliers just before they closed up. Round trip of 25 miles in my motorised rollerskate (OH's description)! Thankfully the girls love the Garvo so it was worth it
