welovemarmite
Just discovered red mite in the cube. I can't clean it today as I don't have the energy levels to do it on my own as unwell. Hubbie in dublin today so he will help tomorrow. Just checking that i have everything at the ready. I dont have diatrom, but do have a louse buster thing with the petherin (sp?) in, can i use that instead? And if i use that can i not use the eggs? I know there is a concern about useing that chemical but cant remember what it is. Sorry have read everything but my unwellness means i dont retain the info too well and get confused easily. Feel guilty that they will have to wait until tomorrow, and that i hadn''t realised.
Redwing
They are likely to be worst in the nest box area so take the egg port door off and sprinkle some powder on the bedding and along gaps If you are able to then sprinkle some around the edges of the roosting bars too This will at least knock them back till your OH gets back Its far easier and more pleasant to clean a coop where most of the red mite are already dead so that action today will make things easier when it comes to cleaning it

welovemarmite
thanks dogmother, its long term unwell, which is why i think red mite has crept in.... Can i just confirm that i need to withdraw egg consumption as i have used the 'p' chemical? and if so for how long? I am also going to treat the chickens tomorrow with some mite drops that i have and (begin with i - sorry but memory for words terrible at present) and i know i have to withdraw for 7 days for that. The Dogmother
You only need to withdraw the eggs if you are using permethrin on the birds, not the housing, so you can use Total Mite Kill and Buz Busters happily Sorry to hear that it's a long term thing look after yourself, won't you?
