miffy
Took my old foot control into local shop and arranged to have a new one fitted to the old lead. Got chatting to the wonderful Darius telling him about the problems I was having with my machine, he said he thought the plastic ( ) gears would be brittle and sounded like they were going also the feed was all wrong...due he suggested to deterioration of the finish on the underside of the foot and/or the dog feed. He suggested using a silicon furniture spray to aid the feed but said it sounded like its on its last legs . But would probably gat another year of gentle use out of it. At this point OH arrived, there was man talk about capacitors and things. I went to "look" at the new machines. Then Oh said I would do better to buy a new machine....SO I DID.......I am now the proud and very happy owner of a Janome DXL603 I am so very impressed. Had a play last night and realised how bad my old machine had become. I can thoroughly recommend Sewing Studio in Redruth Cornwall (sorry no idea how to add a link) didn't try to sell me anything really expensive, I chose a model higher than he suggested . They are moving to larger premises in the new year so will have even more fabric etc

miffy
So far lots of bits on s"Ooops, word censored!"s mainly. However I am also sewing strips to make my first quilt. This weekend I am dying to try the 1 step buttonhole....how amazing is that!!! OH asked me why I am so executed about new machine, I said its like the difference between an old black and white tv you had to manually change the channels with a dial/buttons and our flat screen colour tv with remote control....he understands now.... I can't get over how brilliant the fabric feeding is ...it goes straight without constant manipulation of the fabric....I am such a happy lucky lady
kazmac
Sounds great! I'm about to blow the cobwebs off mine this weekend to make a few bits & pieces. Would love to see what you make with your new machine.
Snowy
Wonderful! I remember exactly how chuffed I was with all the new gadgets when I got a new machine after using my 20 year old dinosaur
Guest
I bought a new one last year - the gears went on my old one! It was a 4oth birthday pressie form my mum and sister - so sad to see it go! But the new one is gorgeous - it does so much more and has a needle threader!!!!! After having my cataracts done I was having to get other people to thread the needle for me every time - so this is a god-send! It's one of those things that you feel you can't just "treat" yourself to - but I wish i'd changed mine years ago now - I use it so much more and my daughter keeps borrowing it to. In fact I am going to get her one for xmas - I offerred to last year but she didn't think she'd get much use out of it. But as she has borrowed mine so much this year I think it's worth getting her one!
