What makes up a light sussex ranger??

Recommended Posts

A light Sussex is a pure breed you are correct

A Sussex ranger/Sussex star is a Rhode Island Red x Light Sussex hybrid

Many are actually totally misleadingly sold as light Sussex - if I had a £1 for every time I've seen one on a forum and the person said they bought a Light Sussex I'd be a rich lady

They do look very similar in colouring...but the body shape is a little different to my pure breed Buff sussex...but then Gladys is 18months where as this newbie it about 20 weeks. Hope she starts laying soon!

I also got an amber star...which I had heard of and a blue ranger who is a beautiful dark blue grey.

These girls are int  ended to provide me with eggs when my pure breeds are on strike

A couple of years ago I compiled a list of all the different hybrids and what breeds went into them. If any one wants a copy, PM me with your email addess and I'll send it to you. It may not be 100% accurate, but it was information I gleaned from trawling various web sites and poultry books.
