Central heating problems - update

Recommended Posts

Thanks Tasha.

We've got a leaking pipe somewhere downstairs which is causing the boiler to lose pressure. Think it's going to be our only option apart from taking up loads and loads of floorboards. Also looks as if some pipework has been run down inside behind walls :(

Have you tried the liquid sealants similar to this one?

Thanks Egluntyne but the plumbers tried some of that and it's not worked :( Radiator valves and some joints on the radiators have been replaced as well. There's no leaks either near any of the radiator pipes coming up though the floor that can be found. Of course we haven't got a void under the floorboards big enough for anyone to crawl around in either.

Just waiting for a price now :( We're having both rads taken out of the dining room so no pipes on show there, kitchen pipes can be mainly hidden under suspended ceiling and behind a corner. Dilemma is the hall and lounge as it isn't going to look pretty in either place :(

Well, thank goodness we decided to have the woodburner installed which meant we then decided to sand the floors. Some of the floorboards needed replacing and DD's boyfriend has been round to lift them up today after he'd plastered the chimney breast.

He has found the leaking pipe  and it's been leaking for a while. It was nowhere near the radiators either as he'd already taken those up to look last weekend. The water mopped out filled quarter of a big black bucket. Thank god there is a dip in the concrete there as otherwise we'd have had water over some electrics as well

I've often complained of a damp smell in there when you first walked in the room but no-one else could smell it so it was ignored
