Blowing off steam......

Recommended Posts

I have not been on here for a while but today I feel like sharing my grievance with anyone who would listen..

Early this morning I said goodbye to my girls (and my family of course), as I entered the hospital for major orthopaedic surgery due around 11 am.

One of my worst nightmares came true when despite all the final checks being complete and my limb marked for surgery (to avoid the wrong limb being operated on - yes it still happens accessionally) just before being settled in I was told that the hospital has failed to order a part necessary for the operation so it has to be postponed.

Aside from the disruption it has caused to arrange everything for today only to have to do all again another time, having to deal with my problem and continue to take medication for longer and deal with any increase risks associated with that, I also sold my tickets to see Lee Evans on Sunday (which were bought over a year ago) because I was going to be in hospital and now I am not .......all down to some people not doing their job properly, and with no consequences to them.....

Double  GGGGGRRRRRR

sorry to hear that , typical of the NHS !

my older sister had to have a hip opperation, its taken a very long time to get in and booked

she finally had her hip operation and to only discover, one leg is longer than the other .......so she has to go back in to get that sorted, all this was running up to the final year in uni ( shes a mature student) - so she had to submit her final piece alot ealier than others and ends up missing her own graduation

i hope you get booked in asap

xx

How awful - the worst thing for me would be having got all psyched up ready for the op and then it not going ahead. It's so frustrating, this happens so often it seems. I don't blame you for wanting to let off steam.

On the other hand, be glad that they discovered the item was missing before they started the op .... that happens, too!

How frustrating - you must be hopping mad  . Hope they manage to rescedule soon.

My OH has been involved in theatres up and down the country for years and says this is a reasonably common occurence  . Sometimes the company concerned has been able to couirier the 'spare part' to theatre but more often, your scenario results. Equally, he has turned up only to be told that the op can't go ahead as someone has given the patient breakfast or, in a few cases, the patient does not show up or changes their mind at the last minute :roll: . These last three usually happen when he has been up at stupid o'clock, waking the rest of us in the process, driven silly miles to arrive for a 'first on the list' at 8.00am only to be given the bad news and then has to drive silly miles back again wasting time, fuel and angst!!

There really isn't any excuse as most hospitals keep a 'stock' of various items 'on the shelf' and, even if they need to order in, things can generally be courierd on a 24 hour basis (the number of calls he has had over the years at 4.30pm when panic'd staff realise they don't have the necessary and want it sent out that night!) :wall:

At least they have taken the sensible decision to postpone rather than raid the shelves and stick something else in because its similar........... :anxious::shameonu:
