Allbed - new bedding Im trying

Recommended Posts

Hi all, went to Titmus in Wheathampstead yesterday to get some Aubioise and they had some new stuff. Its called Allbed (also known as Allbird). It looks quite like Aubioise but a bit bigger pieces. It's quite a bit cheaper than Aubioise (£6.12 for 24 kg compared to £9.38 for 20kg). It's supposed to be less dusty than Aubioise but have all the other benefits.

Thought I would give it a try anyway - always trying to save a few pennies these days. Gave the coop a good old clear out today and put the new bedding in.

Will see how I (and the girls) get on :!:

Allbed is the horse bedding, Allbird is the bird version

I dont know what the difference is though

Its got a good reputation amongst poultry keepers in Northern Ireland where it originates from and seems good as it is absorbant but doesnt blow everywhere like some of the lighter beddings can

I've not tried it though, I am having a medium term love affair with Plospan woodshavings at the moment, its probably one of the best beddings I have tried and a bale goes a long way

I'm using that at the moment - i got a load of free samples from Your Horse Live a few weekends ago.

I have found it dust free, smelling nice and quite soft the eggs remain clean and dry also. I mixed mine with some shavings as I was a bit frustrated that I lost half a sample down the drainage hole in the nesting box! So far so good...but can't seem to buy it anywhere in Gloucester!

Well, I've been using this Allbed/Allbird for a while now, but I have to say all in all I prefer the Aubiose. Aubiose is more absorbent and I don't know, it just seems more versatile - ie, can be used in next box and inside coop. It stays smelling nice and I just like it better. That's not to say the Allbed/Allbird has been a disaster - far from it - it is a close second and it is that bit cheaper too, which is good. I think I will probably buy both in future as they both have their uses.

I don't think the girls mind either way :!:
