MP3 players and CDs

Recommended Posts

My 7 year old son is a massive music fan (not a surprise in my house- MTV is an almost constant). In his bedroom he has a very basic CD player simply because we had it to play stories on when he was a baby. He plays the two music CD's he has over and over again.

His letter to father christmas has requested CD's - JLS, Justin Beiber, The Wanted, One Direction etc etc. However thats probably because he is not aware of other formats and he just wants music to play. He has no older siblings to show hom the modern way

So my wise omletteers, do I go with buying CD's or bring him more up to date and go for a loaded MP3 player and speakers / player. I like the idea he can take him music on the go, which I think will become more important to him (and we go away in a caravan)

However I have no real knowledge of MP3 players and what would be suitable for a young person- any recommendations? My husband has an IPOD and itunes account but we simply buy all our music through them and sync all music on to his ipod, is it easy to get another player and choose what to put on it?

Sorry I'm sure this must be very basic to others but although massive music fans we mostly have CD's, radio and MTV.

Thanks in advance

im 26 and i was the same as your son, i still now have the music channels on in my house

i have a ipod and iphone and MP3

but i still buy CD's and when i buy them i put them and save them in a folder on my laptop, so i can upload to my mp3 and ipod

i still like the idea of having a CD and still have the option of having it on my laptop, iphone & MP3 as well

but i know alot of people now just download off itunes straight onto there ipod ect

I bought my then 8 year old an ipod nano for christmas last year as he also loves music. It is very easy to add an extra ipod to itunes on your PC/laptop, so any CDs are loaded onto there and added to ipods as required, we have 3 or 4 attached to it (this was all brand new to me this time last year as well!)

Son loves his ipod and some decent over ear headphones means we can all be in the same room together whilst doing different things! He often plugs in and tunes out when he wants some respite from his younger brother 8)

Is an IPOD the only realistic good MP3 and does anyone have recommendations of which one if so, I have no idea of others or prices. How much do you need to pay for something that will hold a reasonable amount? I know DH's was about £200 which is far too much for an enthusiastic 7 year old.

Hi, Not sure how to do the linky thing but here is the apple page (sorry will need to copy and paste it) showing you the different types of iPod and comparing them to each other.

http://www.apple.com/uk/ipod/compare-ipod-models/

If you do go for an iPod (I love mine ) I wouldn't go for the shuffle as it lacks a screen to go through the different songs you have.

You can add your son's iPod to your current iTunes account so you can share music or you can create a separate account for your son then link it to your current account so you can share music between accounts I do this as we have separate laptops though I am not sure it would work if you are using the same computer as both accounts need to be open to share music and guessing as he is 7 he doesn't have his own computer (though now a days I could be wrong, I have heard some primary school children do have their own laptops for home work etc though my son is still a preschooler so not sure.
