surfer_chicken
I'm having a Harry Potter themed dinner party for my 18th in January (not your traditional 18th, I know). I wondered if anyone had any ideas for some Harry Potter themed recipes? I've found plenty for treats and desserts, but I need a starter and a main course! I preferably want to be able to prepare most of it in advance (perhaps a slow cooker meal?); it needs to feed 8 and not be too carb based as one of my friends gets terrible stomach pains if she eats too much bread/pasta etc. (made the mistake of making a paella last year ). I'm not too bothered about the Harry Potter link, it could be as simple as a normal meal but with a magic-y name- but if you have any creative ideas do tell! Cinnamon
How about a Toad in the Hole - there are toads in HP, aren't there It would be easy enough to make for a crowd too.
Space Chick
We had "butter beer" in a Michelin stared restaurant inspired by JK Rowling... Basically it was a weak butterscotch sauce - so like a drink, topped by a butterscotch foam.... Could be re-creatable When do you need to know, as I was planning on tinkering and experimenting to recreate if I'm successful I could provide a recipe I know your party is Jan 18th, and I will probably play over Christmas, will this give you enough time? surfer_chicken
It'll be on the 28th of January (it's my 18th birthday party, not on the 18th ). I don't really need to know until a couple of weeks beforehand. Thank you! Unfortunately I can't stand anything creamy/milky so there will be no butterbeer I found a recipe for a "love potion" however, which was basically raspberry juice and sherbet to make it frothy which I'm going to try

Mrs Webmuppet
I have a recipe for Dragons Blood Soup ( well it's really roast tomato and pepper soup - but that's what LMW calls it) if you want it.

Mrs Webmuppet
Here's the recipe: serves 6 2 red peppers 1.1kg ripe tomatoes 2 garlic cloves 2 red onions quartered 4 tbsp olive oil 400g can chopped tomatoes 2 tbsp Worcester sauce half tsp sugar Preheat oven to 220oc Cut each pepper in half and discard seeds and stalk. Cut each half into 4 and put into large roasting tin along with whole tomatoes, peeled garlic cloves and onion quarters. Drizzle with the oil and roast for 20 mins. Carefully remove tin from oven and turn veg over. Roast for a further 10-15 mins until tender. Remove from ove. Put one third of veg in food processor with canned tomatoes, Worcester sauce and sugar and season with salt and pepper. Blitz for 30 seconds. Tip into a sauce pan. Put half remaining veg into processor and add 250ml water and blitz. Repeat with remaining veg and another 250ml water. Simmer for 10 mins and serve.serve with cheese straws cut into shap of broomsticks. No Dragons were harmed in the recipe!
