I've been getting one egg a day from 20+ freeloadiing hens or so I thought. I bought a dozen free range eggs this morning from the local farn shop at huge expense ... and guess what, I found a stash of 27 eggs under a shrub this afternoon. No idea how old they were, and I daren't risk it at Christmas ...so I've binned them.

Oh, how frustrating! Still, at least now you know they are laying, you can start keeping an eye on them!

I let my girls into their larger area at about 8am and once I think they have all layed about miday I let them FR as I have found the odd egg under a bush in the past. I have 8 ladies and today I got 5 eggs but it ranges form between 1 and 5 eggs per day at the moment.

Actually that reminds me of when Mr Fox took all my girls in one night (baaaad Mr Fox ). I thought my girls were a bit hit and miss with their egg laying but I was grateful for the 2 or 3 per day that we had.

 

A month or two later, we were digging in that area of the garden to make raised beds and over the course of a week, we found a dozen eggs! On the one side it was a sad reminder of their loss, but on the other it was a lovely chuckle to think they had been hiding these little gifts for us.

Oh no! How frustrating! The little demons! You didn't try the water test? I think I would have done that before tossing them!

Oh dear! I've scoured my garden in the hope of finding a stash because im only gettin 1 - 2 eggs a day off my rabble, but no, they really are a freeloading bunch!

We have had three eggs this week, hubby is miffed as they have gone in the incubator
