floandboo
Hello, We have a chicken who is having trouble standing. We first noticed it on Tuesday. She seemed to have collapsed into a hole in the run and couldn't get up.Other than this though she was very bright and when taken food and water she drinks and eats. Yesterday we took her out of the run into the garden and again she wants food and drink and if she is stood up carefully she will stand and she did walk about a bit but does keep sitting down again. Took her to vets but they're not great with chickens, vet confirmed all OK re no broken bones etc and not in pain and gave us a course of Baytril just in case but could not tell us anything. I am worried about mareks but she seems quite bright still, could it be calcium deficiency or something? we bought her with one other chicken at the end of October as POL and they have both been laying - she is still laying eggs. The dealer is a reputable one and vaccinates birds. We feed them on a decent quality food. Also can you tell me how long after Baytril course do we have to stop eating eggs for? Can anybody help? Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear about your poorly girl. If she's eating and drinking normally and the vet has confirmed there's nothing broken, she may just have sprained something (I had a girl who was completely off one leg but a few days later she was right as rain). Egg withdrawal for Baytril seems a bit vague (I had a quick search on the forum!) but anything between 7-14 days after treatment ends seems to be the general advice. I hope she perks up soon . Christian
I would separate her if you can and allow her to rest. It is probably a strain/sprain and rest would be the best thing. The vet has conformed nothing is broken, so that is good news. The baytril won't do her any harm in that case. Just make sure she is eating and drinking enough and hopefully she will be back on her feet soon.
