jennifer
Can this be right - Today squeak laid her first egg but on the lawn! Is this unusual or could an explanation be that she laid it amonst the bark in the flowerbeds and kicked it onto the grass as they do with the bark chips! Olly
I think when they're learning to lay, perhaps they don't recognise the warning signs and just drop them wherever they are! she will soon learn to use the nesting box.
kannie
Ours have occasionally laid in odd places. Maisy once laid a soft shelled egg on the lawn. A couple of times they've been taken by surprise and done eggs in the run, which have then spooked them completely!
peanut12
when Kim first laid it was in the run. I popped it in the nesting box for an hour and she has done the business in the right place ever since. They are so easy to teach!!!
Lovemychooks
I bought some rubber eggs in case the chickens didn't know where to lay but they instinctively knew what to do and lay the eggs in the nest box
