Caged/free range... here's the solution...

Recommended Posts

...And it's obvious! I can't believe it hasn't been thought of before!

People can't afford to buy the 'nice' eggs. If 'nice eggs' were cheaper people wouldn't buy the caged eggs.

OMG, I can't believe "Ooops, word censored!"ody's thought of this! What idiots we all are.

(Please note the massive sarcasm!)

OO bit of a debate going on, on my FB page after a link I posted.

Pity for the poor people who can only afford caged (bet they buy their cigarettes on the way out of the supermarket). Make free-range eggs ('nice' eggs) cheaper than caged ('bad') eggs, that's the solution.

I tried explaining that won't be possible as the reason hens are in tiny cages are because customers want cheap! We put them there to keep cheaply = cheap eggs. Keeping free-range hens will cost more = more expensive eggs.

Give me a break... I'm logging out now before this so called animal lover drives me around the bend! ;)

I think I was calm in my explanation, don't you think BM? Calm, cool and collected. This person obviously thinks that those who sell the free-range eggs at such prices are doing it all for profit. No consideration is given to cost of feed and extras that mean chickens are kept in better conditions, such as more space to move!

Jackian, I give up! :wall: It's especially frustrating when so-called animal lovers will go out of their way to argue their point.

I'm so glad to have my hens in the garden looking lovely and healthy, enjoying dustbathing, scratching and eating their greens.

I thought you were very restrained indeed!! Haven't totted up how much I spend on my girls, but then I get all my animal feed bar fish food from the same supplier and get a bill at the end of the month so don't really think about it much? Got a nice deal going with my new next door neighbour, I'll be giving him all my hen compost and a few eggs and he's going to give me greens etc for the girls in return, can't beat the old favour trading can you??

I work in a shop and believe me people will pay £7 for 20 fags and moan about the price of 12 eggs ..I have to bite my tongue.

When I see how long it takes my girls to lay an egg :!:

Exactly!! And when your girls go off laying for whatever reason it makes you value their eggs even more when they start laying again :D

apart from the cigarettes and maybe booze that these people tah alledgedly cannot afford the pence more per egg to buy good eggs.

I would put money on them still paying HHUUUGGGEEE amount for a packet of crisps, instead of potatoes at next to nothing , and tastey biscuits not plain ones..

I love this comment that the consumer demands cheap food.(Chicken eggs pork)

Stuff and nonsense.

I want Cheap smoked salmon and steaks.. (bet other consumers do too)

Do I get them ?

heck no!!!!
