the only problem I found feeding alfachick was that they tend to cherry pick all the nice bits out so all the stuff that's good for them ends up in the bedding so goes uneaten which makes it even more expensive so I only use it as a treat and feed them on a medicated chick crumb

I must admit mine did that too, I feed chick crumb now, I choose a cheap brand as they waste so much its never worth buying the good stuff. I move them on to Garvo chick pellets when they have learned some table manners

Emma - try Regency Poultry for Coxoid, they are normally very reasonable with their P&P

Most agricultural suppliers will sell medicated food, you can buy it online but the p&p bumps it up, you are looking for crumb 'with ACS'

If you can't get it the garvo will be fine if a bit messy and expensive.

If you go for unmedicated do try to get some coxoid ready to hand as if they get sick you'll not have time to wait for some to arrive. Never use medicated crumb and coxoid as they'll cancel each other out

When buying chick crumb at this time of year check it's in date, I lost some chick once because the crumb was out of date and the chicks literally didn't get any nutritional value from it :(

The broody needs to eat the same as the chicks so will eat the chick crumb too, medicated is no problem but you can't eat any eggs she lays until a week or so after she stops eating the crumb but she won't lay for some time after the chicks have hatched so this isn't usually a problem
