Help Quickly(PLEASE)

Hi,

I brought a incubator a few days a go And a baby thermometer and i set the incubators thermostat to 37.5 C and the thermometer was showing more like 38 C to 40C,And i should me getting fertile eggs really soon.

Please tell me what i need and how to do this,For a successful incubation.

It looks like a still air incubator (one with no fan)

 

If it is a still air one then the temperature on top of the egg needs to be correct so the actual incubator setting is normally higher, this is because there is no fan to distribute the heat

 

I'm not sure that thermometer would be a good one to use, I've never seen one of those being used with an incubator before... A search on eBay of incubator thermometers will bring up some options, digital ones or strip ones are the thermometers most commonly used with this sort of incubator

 

To set your inccy put some normal eggs in and lay the thermometer on top of them then fiddle with the thermostat till the thermometer reads correctly then it's a good idea to make sure this stays steady for a day or so before setting any hatching eggs

 

Hatching eggs will keep some time before they are useless - at least a week so itsbest to get the settings right before putting eggs in as too high a temperature is fatal to hatching eggs

 

If you bought the incubator from P&T give them a call for advice they are very helpful
