PLease help!! Bumpa Bit! Pic attached

Recommended Posts

I have just put a bumpa bit on our chicken that is stripping the others and she is going nuts! She doesnt seems able to peck the ground or eat and now the others are pecking the bumpa bit!

I have put it on as directed and she hates it. She is just stood in the run looking sorry for herself :( we are going away over night tonight - will she be ok?!

Help!

It looks fine! However, I think you may have a long bit, you can get shorter ones. Having said that, when I used them I could only get the long ones for 4 of my hens - 3 of them settled down and by next day were eating and drinking with no problems. The 4th never did take to it and after 24 hours her crop was still empty and she was looking very miserable so I took it off her. They really don't like it at first (can't blame them really, but needs must!) but give her a few hours and see how she gets on with it. You've done very well to get it on in the first place :D

ahhhhhhhhhhhh thank you thank you thank you! I have been sat here refreshing the page every 5 mins! I was so worried!

It took us a few attempts but finally got it on - it says its a regular?!

The only part I'm worried about is the little prongs either side of the beak are they supposed to be inside the beak? I was worried because some people said that they need to be higher up but it seems that it slipped and clipped in where it is?

Ahhhh feel better now!

having someone hold her in a towel to let me do it helped!

Just have a look at where it sits in the nostrils - there's a flap of skin just inside the front of the nostril - the bumper bit needs to go in the back of the nostril. I have fitted a few for various folk and the chooks don't like it at first but most get used to it pretty quickly - let's face it, it's better than a dead hen which has been bullied and pecked.

If you're anywhere near North Oxon I'd be happy to help.
