AJuff
I just put my cross stitch down on the table for a minute and DD2 and DS, not sure which, buttered toast and dropped two lumps of butter on the linen! I put a blob of washing up liqiud on the greasy marks and put it in the machine with hand wash liquid. The greasy marks are still there! Next I put it on a normal 40 wash with powder and still it is marked. What now? I'm loathe to start again and loose two months work!
Couperwife
get a brown envelope, or bag, put it over the top and iron it soaks up the grease you may need to go it a number of times for it to go, but it should shift it fingers crossed (bad children!!! ) cathy x
AJuff
Well I tried the brown paper and iron but as it's been machine washed it didn't work as it's the stain that remains:(
craftyhunnypie
Could you not dye the linen using tea, or would that ruin your work that you have done? Emma.x
AJuff
I think that may ruin the stitches that took me two months to get through!!!! I'm reluctant to start all over again!!!!
freddie
try online. Someone will know. Ravelry, or nat school needlewoek?
chickweed
I find that heavy grease marks on cotton can be removed with Swarfega, the gel used by car mechanics on their oily hands, even if I have washed and dried the item first. I have never tried it on linen however, but maybe you could gently massage a small blob onto the marks and then wash in the normal way. The smell will be present after washing but it will disappear after drying.
Eggasperated
I've had success before ironing with kitchen towel over the grease stain.
bluekarin
Oh no, how frustrating! I would try the blob of washing up liquid again, but leave it on for much longer. Good luck
AJuff
Thank you for your advice. I put washing up liquid on it again and left it for an hour then rewashed it and hey presto no more greasy marks. I am behind schedule for it though!!! ME in January, should have had RR in February and Y in March! I thought doing a bit every month would mean by October it will be finished ready for framing!!! Best laid plans huh?
