welovemarmite
Just reading up about what i need to do for the carrots, parsnips and beetroot. The beetroot instructions say that 2 to 3 weeks before planting the seed into the soil, apply granular fertilizer. Now if i can i would like to try using something else.... is well rotted chicken manure with aubiose no good???
Eggasperated
Far superior I should think although quite rich for root crops might need to be quite sparing.

Thanks, slowly getting to grips with it all!! Are there any veg that i should not bother preparing with chicken poo?? carrots, parsnips and beetroot it puts to much nitrogen in the soil which results in all tops and not a lot of root and with carrots it can cause them to fork and split I just add a general fertilizer like growmore or blood fish and bone when I sow the seed depending on what I'm useing at the time as I alternate each year

sjp
thanks sip, so it will be ok for my brassica bed? yes I use pelleted chicken poo and calcified seaweed in the planting hole in a hope that it will slow down the club root
lillybettybabs
Carrot don't need a lot of fertilizer as you start to get them mishaped. I used to grow mine in sand Mixed with a little John Innes no 3.
