yes it me again!! I have seen things about making your own cloches, but wondered how people had got on. I am thinking about seeing what i could make for covering rows of seeds. And as cheaply as possible.

I might have some that you can have if you are still needing some. I have covered my veg patch

with a patio now as the mice where just eating most of what i grew.

Let me know if you do and I'll have a root in the shed.

That would be wonderful if you did have any you no longer wanted, but only if you are sure. I am very near banbury and we have our studio over there so either me or my husband are there several times a week.

If you need more then Aldi have some coming up in their weekly offers, can't remember when though so you'd have to check their site.

thanks DM...i have been looking at a pile of metal coat hangers and working out what i can do with them. Where the allotment is we have problems with birds eating things. So until they are established I need to cover things up. ..... think i might spend tomorrow up the allotment playing.

am trying to work that one out. I know tesco, i know beaumont house, i know burger king, i know the laboratories (where out studio is!!), i know the citroen garage.....

It's along Ruscote Avenue... the other end of Beaumont Estate. So come out of the Te$co/retail park road, turn right at that roundabout and it's next right, opposite the entrance to Kraft.

For a very cheap home made alternative, how about 1 litre water bottles cut in half. We've these for bean seedlings. Push them a little way in to the ground and it keeps the slugs off too. Cutting the bottle in half length ways might work for short rows of seeds. You can use the coat hanged to pin them down against the wind

 

They are not going to make a big cloche, so when the seedlings get big enough something bigger may be needed. If you don't plant all your seeds/seedlings at the same time then maybe it's not a problem and it could reduce the number of bought cloches you need.

wonderful idea, i will be doing staged planting anyway. I will ask my neighbours for some old bottles as we don't use them!
