mollyripkim
As you may have read from previous posts Ivy is a bit dim to say the least, she is fully integrated into the group with no pecking or bullying but I still have to climb on my hands and knees to put her to bed each night. I had hoped she would go in once she came into lay but yesterday laid a lovely little egg on the patio and today one in the middle of the run. Has anyone got any advice or tips on how to encourage her into the cube to lay and sleep? I feel it's still too cold for her on her own in the run and anyway I shut the cube door each night, it won't be so bad in the summer but is it unusual just to lay anywhere? Ps. Her haircut really worked as she now finds the treats easily.
mollyripkim
Sorry just bumping this up as ivy just lays her egg wherever she happens to be, would love some advice.
Plum
Why not put a box on floor of run for her to lay in Mine only lay on the run floor if someone is chasing them out of the nest box. No idea apart from posting her about how to get her to sleep in there.
Chicken Shirl
It sounds as if she is not wanted in the coop! I would put her a separate box in the run to lay her eggs in, as Plum has suggested......Put an egg of hers in it and see what she does.....Maybe she wants to roost out in the run...Put a perch in there for her....See what happens.....I don't think she is dim, she is just being a chicken. Bless her! We are all different.
mollyripkim
Thankyou that's a good idea to put a nest box in the run, maybe she might sleep in it as well as I worry she will get cold if I leave her out. They have branches in the run which she currently roosts on at night until I crawl in and put her in the cube. I don't think it is because the others won't let her in as when I check later they are all snuggled up although she is bottom of the pecking order so maybe that is it. Chicken Shirl
leave her outside....She will go in the next night if she was cold out there.....I like her she isn't following the crowd. She is wearing her duvet she will be fine. X
