chickencam
I have spent this evening reading the Kindle threads, we are tempted but OH is a poor sleeper and would like to be able to read in bed without spending more money. We could buy a clip on light for not very much but he doesn't really like the ones that you get for books so is not keen on this option. He has been looking at other readers and we wondered if anyone else has experience to share? He quite likes the Kobo but it has the same sort of screen as the Kindle except for the Vox which looks a but gimicky. The big advantage of the e-ink screens seems to be battery life are there any backlit ones with good battery life? Where else can you download books from apart from Amazon and W H Smith? Help please oh wise Omletteers.
Cinnamon
If you want to try a backlit e reader, then you can download the Kindle app to most smartphones, tablets & laptops. I have a Kindle & a clip on light which cost next to nothing on ebay, & is brilliant....I also have the Kindle app on my phone for if I am out,but the backlit screen makes my eyes ache after a while. The other problem with backlit screens is that they have glare on sunny days, making them very very hard to use - this isn't an issue with the amazing matt screen & e ink of a Kindle. My little clip on bendy light is really good & wasn't expensive at all,& the Kindle covers with a built in light are very good too.
Mercedes55
The only other ereader I have looked at is the Sony one and I wasn't at all impressed with it. A friend has asked me to set it up for her and to me it seems very cheap looking and the display is awful compared to my Kindle. I have the Kindle app on my phone too but quite honestly it's true about a phone screen not being suitable for reading in bright light. I love how I can sit in the sun and read my Kindle. I bought the cover with the integral light and it's brilliant
