Unsecure chicken perches

We"re thinking of buying an old cottage (big garden, more hens), but the house is single brick, I.e. no cavity wall to insulate. I think you can have walls dry lined, does anyone have any experience of this and an idea of cost. Is it worth it? Thanks

Is it actually just a single brick or a solid wall? My Victorian house has solid walls and they are the thickness of a brick's length. Never really have any problems with heat loss, but dry lining could be the way to go if you're worried.

Our previous house - a Victorian terraced - had a single brick extension. It wasn't a problem when we bought the house about 11 years ago and we never had a problem with cold or damp but when we came to sell it 4-5 years ago our buyer's mortgage company kicked up a huge stink and refused to lend them the money even though it was structurally sound (and they already had a mortgage on the property... ours ). It had been drylined many years previously but they still made us take the kitchen and bathroom fittings out and re-do the work before their surveyor would authorise the sale. I can't remember how much it cost (probably <£10,000 for 2 small rooms) but I can remember the hassle, the mess and being left with even smaller rooms - we could barely open the cupboard or oven doors and they had to rebuild the kitchen units around the fridge freezer or we would never have got it in the room. Our buyers then pulled out but that's another story...
