craftyhunnypie
Well I have just gone out to the eglu a bit concerned. Mainly because the gingers were dustbathing, not a care in the world & there was still no sign of Blanche ( my pepperpot). She had by now been in the nesting box for nearly 2 hours. Fearing the worst I rushed out opened the egg port & she's there tail in the air all puffed up. So I stroked her back & her wings came out as if she'd got chicks under her. Thinking oh no please don't go broody - I attempted to lift her up off the nest. She the toddled out sweetly into the run with the other girls no problem. But the egg that she'd laid was red hot & wet - sort of covered in slightly sticky water. I presume that it had just literally popped out & if she hadn't moved off the nest she'd have laid in my hand!!!!!!! I'm assuming that the sticky water is normal & just a bit of fluid to help her push it out???? What does anyone else think? She's parading round with a piece of tomato in her beak now & washing her hair in the glug! Emma.x
chelsea
its not unusual here for our girls to be on the nest box 2 hours. I have seen an egg as soon as its been laid and it is slightly wet with a "sheen" on it when it pops out. Dont think there's anything to worry about, she sounds ok to me
Egluntyne
Yep...that is normal. I think that as it dries it provides a protective coating.
craftyhunnypie
oh thanks for that - it did dry very quickly. I just found it comical that she took 2 hours then nearly laid in my hand! Little madam! Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
We always hold our warm eggs to our cheeks, so long as they are cleanish. It's gorgeous I love it!!!! Emma.x
