AndreaT
When I was thinking about getting chickens I had this rosy vision of lovely happy, healthy, friendly hens clucking round the garden. But oh no mine don't want to be like that! I seem to have had constant problems since I got them; bullying that ended in a bloody tail, baytril for sneezes, fox attack, feather eating, lice, injured wing. And today Cristal has somehow managed to damage her beak and has taken the top layer off! It's obviously painful for her, she's put herself to bed already When it happened I was just putting them back in their run as I was taking Fizz to the vets. I was cheeky and took them both with me because I couldn't tell what she had done initially, I just knew she had hurt it. The vet was great, she suggested using New Skin on it, which I'll have to pick up tomorrow. In the mean time I've sprinkled some antibiotic powder on her. Fizz has been booked in next week to have her wing removed She damaged it around Christmas time and there was some improvement although she's never been able to use it. She still has feeling in it and I think it's probably painful for her so it'll be better for her to have it removed. It's a good job they are laying beautiful eggs because it feels really hard being a chicken mum sometimes!!

AndreaT
Thanks guys. Sorry to moan, think I was having an off day yesterday Fizz must have known and decided to reward me with this; The one on the right is a normal sized egg for her, just over 50g. She laid the large one a couple of days ago, it's a whopping 83g!! And yes, it was a double yolker, my first ever
