I'm not sure about the miracle grow bit but grass seed isn't poisonous to them. They obviously thought you had given them a lovely treat

Without fencing the area off it's gonna be tricky to keep them away I think. I'm sure your chickens will be ok hun x

Hi Happily

I guessed the grass seed is benighn but the ferterliser was a worry

It's been raining today so I'm hopping that will help wash it into the soil

The irony is usually I allways garden organic...

They seem ok at the mo but I am considering withdrawing the eggs for a while

I too discovered that chickens love grass seed when i re-seeded some patches in my garden a few weeks ago. They were sticking their heads through the netting to gobble up the seed that they could reach  I can't comment on the fertiliser Im afraid because I didnt use any. Needless to say, the area next to the netting is still completely grass-free

Chickens also love broad bean plants - they can just reach across to one corner of my vegetable patch, so the poor plant within their reach has been severely pruned :!: However, they still do not like peonies as the peony plant within their free range area is still untouched and was full of flowers until a couple of days ago when the rain came and battered them all off :(:(
